Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981), known by her stage name Alicia Keys, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, record producer and philanthropist.
Brought up in a deprived area of New York known as Hell’s Kitchen Alicia Keys always knew she was going to be a performer. As her mother was an actress, Alicia spent many an hour in theatres with the performing arts surrounding and influencing her. She played piano and wrote her first song at aged 13 years and won 5 Grammy awards for her debut album.
Alicia Keys has collaborated with other singer/songwriter/musicians including Jay Z, Nicky Minaj, Dr Dre and Kendrick Lamar as well as enjoying continuing success with her own style of R&B, soul and jazz with classical piano at the core.
As well as her musical performance, Alicia has starred in films, made TV appearances and supported many charities.
