Musician Charlie Rich was born in 1932, in Arkansas. He briefly studied music at the University of Arkansas before joining the United States Air Force. He formed his first band while serving in the Air Force. The Velvetones were a blues and jazz group, but after leaving the Air Force in 1956 he became involved in the country music scene and sang backing vocals for the likes of Johnny Cash.
Known as the “Silver Fox” Charlie Rich gained commercial success in the 1970s. He had nine No. 1 country singles, including “Behind Closed Doors,” and “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” which both sold over 1 million copies.
