Merle Haggard

Merle Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) was an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. Whose successful country music career garnered him almost 40 number one hits in the US between the 1960s and the 1980s. He continued to release successful albums into the 2000s.

During his long career, Merle Haggard received numerous awards. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1977, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 1994, and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2006, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. During his songwriting career Merle Haggard earned 48 BMI Country Awards, nine BMI Pop Awards, a BMI R&B Award, and 16 BMI “Million-Air” awards, all from a catalogue of songs that added up to over 25 million performances.
