Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum is an American country / pop music group formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2006. The trio is composed of Hillary Scott (lead vocals), Charles Kelley (lead vocals) and Dave Haywood (vocals, guitar, piano and mandolin).

The name Antebellum comes from when the group were photographing “antebellum” homes which describes large plantation properties in South America. The Latin word bellum means “war”; “antebellum” therefore means “before the [American Civil] war”.

Lady Antebellum won the Vocal Group of the Year honour from the Country Music Association and from the Academy of Country Music three times in a row. Eight of the band’s singles went gold. “Need You Now” went on to sell over seven million downloads, according to some sources and won five Grammy awards in 2011, including Song of the Year. They have since toured extensively in the US and Europe and their more recent album “747” seems to reflect this time of travelling with an energetic more diverse sound which reaches out to their crossover audience.
