The Muppets are a bunch of characters created by Jim Henson in 1955. They have appeared on a plethora of TV shows, including Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock and their own “The Muppet Show”. They then became international film superstars with movies such as “The Muppet Movie”, “The Great Muppet Caper” and “Muppets Most Wanted”.
Some of the favourite characters from The Muppets include :
Kermit The Frog who is the banjo playing, singing and dancing unassuming leader of the gang. He’s not the smartest Muppet or the most talented. He’s not the best public speaker as almost everything makes him nervous. But he’s loyal, brave, always has his friends best interests at heart and sees the good in everybody. Kermit’s nephew, Robin famously sang the song “Halfway Down The Stairs” having inherited his uncles musical talents.
Miss Piggy the delectable diva with wicked karate chop moves. Miss Piggy has played a major role in The Muppets since the early days. Her romantic interest in Kermit (Kermie) is plain for all to see (except Kermit himself) as she tries to woo him with those big blue eyes, smothers him with kisses and then sends him flying with a well placed karate chop. Although she comes across as a shy character with oodles a feminine charm, her temper is quick and anyone would be wise to hide when she flies into one of her rages.
Statler and Waldorf the pair of balcony occupying grumpy old men who spend most of their time heckling the other characters. They frequently fall about with mutual laughter at their witty remarks and sometimes forget they are friends and end up heckling each other.
Animal doesn’t speak much but makes a lot of noise. He is the crazed drummer in The Muppets Band who has a desire to eat or smash up everything in his path. Although his vocabulary is limited, he can repeat (and sometimes act upon) simple phrases and, because his drumming style is so outrageous, he is normally chained to his drum kit.
The Muppets troop is vast with many more interesting and hilarious characters to meet.
Trivia : Most of The Muppets are left handed! This is because the majority of puppeteers use their right arm to control the head of The Muppet.
