Absolutely most famous for her role playing “Sandy” in the iconic film/musical Grease, Olivia Newton John actually had a successful career as a singer before this.
Born in the United Kingdom the young Olivia moved to Australia with her family in the 1950’s. She entered and won a TV talent contest and by 1963 was appearing regularly on television.
During a trip to London (UK) Olivia Newton John teamed up with an old friend and toured army bases there, performing for the troops. She also recorded her first single for Decca Records, closely followed by her successful album “If Not For You”. Her popularity increased across the globe with her music being mainly in the Country genre but also crossing over into Pop and Contemporary. By the time “Grease” was released in 1978, her music career seemed to have stalled, but the film kick started it again with songs such as “Summer Nights” and “Hopelessy Devoted To You” smashing the charts.
Olivia Newton John has garnered multiple awards including Grammy’s, Country Music, American Music and Peoples Choice Awards, ten Number 1 hits including “Physical,” which topped the charts for ten consecutive weeks.
