Searchers (The) were a pop band from Liverpool, UK who were most popular in the 1960’s. They  released a cover of The Drifters hit “Sweets for My Sweet,” which shot to number one on the British charts as did “Needles and Pins” and “Don’t Throw Your Love Away.

The Searchers released their second album in 1965, which featured their biggest singles, “Love Potion Number Nine” and “Sugar and Spice“. The band’s popularity in the US began to grow, and in 1966 they achieved a US Top 10 single with “Take It or Leave It“.

The Searchers toured extensively for the next five years, but by the early 1970s, their original sound had largely become out of fashion as rock and roll was overtaken by more progressive styles. The band officially disbanded in 1990, though Mike Pender and John McNally continue to perform the band’s music across the world to this day.

Over the decades the band line-up has shifted many times and recently two versions of The Searchers were touring, headed by former members. The Searchers remain one of the most successful and influential British rock bands of all time.
