Soft Cell

Soft Cell was a British synthpop band consisting of vocalist Marc Almond and David Ball. The duo first met in 1977 but their first public gig was not until 1980 at Futurama festival in Leeds.

They amassed 13 UK chart singles, five of them Top 10 hits. Two gold and one platinum-selling albums.
Their 1981 reworking of “Tainted Love” (originally a Northern Soul tune by Gloria Jones) has sold over 1 million copies and won Single Of The Year at 1982’s BRIT Awards. In the US, it spent a then record-breaking 43 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 (and still features among the Top 20 longest runs in American chart history). It was also a No.1 hit in 17 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany and South Africa.

Marc Almond and Dave Ball first met in 1977 but their first public gig was not until 1980 at Futurama festival in Leeds.

Frankie Lymon

Frankie Lymon (and The Teenagers)

Frankie Lymon was an American rock and roll/rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the early rock and roll group The Teenagers.

The group was composed of five boys, all in their early to mid-teens whose first single “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” was also their biggest hit. Six other top blues 10 singles followed over the next year or so.

Lymon had officially departed from the group by September 1957 and as a solo artist was not nearly as successful as he had been with the Teenagers. His highest-charting solo hit was a cover of Bobby Day’s “Little Bitty Pretty One“, which peaked at No. 58 on the Hot 100 pop chart in 1960.

As a result of drug dependence, Frankie Lymons’ life was cut short at the tender age of 25 years.

Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000.

Joe Diffie

Joe Diffie

Joe Diffie is an American country singer / songwriter.

Diffie’s father played guitar and banjo, and his mother sang in a family band. His first musical performance came at age four.

After his first marriage, Joe Diffie worked a number of different jobs and worked as a musician on the side, first in a gospel group called Higher Purpose, and then in a bluegrass band called Special Edition. He eventually signed to a record label in the 1990s.

Between then and 2004, Diffie charted 35 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, five of which peaked at No. 1. In addition to these singles, he has had 12 others reach the Top 10 and ten more others reach the Top 40 on the same chart.

He has also co-written singles for Holly Dunn, Tim McGraw, and Jo Dee Messina, and has recorded with Mary Chapin Carpenter, George Jones, and Marty Stuart.

Marie Osmond

Marie Osmond

Marie Osmond (born October 13, 1959) is an American singer, actress, doll designer, and a member of the show business family the Osmonds. Although she never officially joined the family’s singing group she occasionally sang with them.

She gained success as a solo country music artist in the 1970s and 1980s. Her best known song is a cover of the ballad “Paper Roses”. From 1976 to 1979, she and her singer brother Donny Osmond hosted a television variety show called Donny & Marie.

More recently Marie Osmond has taken part in the US show Dancing With The Stars in which she and her professional dance partner came 3rd.

Wet Wet Wet

Wet Wet Wet

Wet Wet Wet are a Scottish band formed in 1982. They were hugely popular in the 1980’s and 90’s with a number of hits scoring high on the UK charts and around the world.

They are probably best known for their cover of The Troggs‘ 1960s hit “Love Is All Around“, which was used on the soundtrack to the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. It was a massive international success and spent 15 weeks at the top of the British charts.

Their 1997 album Ten, coincided with their decade at the top, but also signalled a slide in their commercial popularity and the band split in 1999.

Between 2004 and 2017 Wet Wet Wet produced one more album, went on tour and headlined at festivals in the UK but split after the lead vocal (Marti Pellow) left to concentrate on solo work.

Lukas Graham

Lukas Graham is a Danish pop and soul band. It consists of lead vocalist Lukas Forchhammer, drummer Mark Falgren, and bassist Magnus Larsson. The band released their first album, Lukas Graham, with labels Copenhagen Records and Then We Take the World in 2012. The album peaked at number one on the Danish charts. Their second album was released in 2015 and earned international attention with singles like “Mama Said” and “7 Years”, the latter of which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 list (among other countries’ charts). The self-titled global debut album was officially released in the United States by Warner Bros. Records on 1 April 2016.
